Exploring the World of AI: Reflections from AI Fest Philippines 2026
As a web developer beginning to explore AI, I attended the 3-Day AI Technical Conference at AI Fest Philippines 2026 to learn more about the field. Here are my reflections on the event, the key ideas that stood out, and how it broadened my perspective on AI beyond algorithms and code.

Last August 3–5, 2026, I had the opportunity to attend the 3-Day AI Technical Conference as part of AI Fest Philippines at the Iloilo Convention Center. It was an insightful experience that broadened my perspective on artificial intelligence beyond just models and coding.
As a web developer exploring AI, I initially expected a highly technical conference. Instead, I found discussions that emphasized something even more important: building an AI-ready nation requires collaboration between government, academia, and industry.
The first two days of the technical conference consisted primarily of plenary sessions featuring distinguished speakers from academia, government, and industry. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, going beyond the technical aspects of AI to explore its applications in healthcare, fisheries, climate, and other challenges facing the Philippines.
One of my favorite sessions was Dr. Prospero C. Naval Jr.’s talk on AI opportunities for the Philippines and Southeast Asia, where he highlighted that our greatest advantage isn’t just technology—it’s human capital. His message reinforced that meaningful AI progress depends on strong partnerships between government, educational institutions, and private companies working toward a shared vision. He also showcased an interesting project called Fish-I, a semi-automated reef fish census technology powered by AI.
Throughout the conference, I also learned about:
- Whether the Philippines can become a leader in AI development.
- AI for Good and how AI can contribute to sustainable development.
- Applications of AI in robotics and improving healthcare outcomes.
- Current AI research initiatives happening across the country.
- Cultivating sustainable AI talent and preparing the future workforce.
- The intersection of AI and quantum computing.
- Human-centered AI governance and the importance of building trust as AI adoption accelerates.
One innovation that particularly stood out to me was how DOST-PAGASA is leveraging AI-powered weather and disaster prediction models to help improve weather forecasting and disaster preparedness—an excellent example of AI creating real-world impact for communities.
Apart from the technical conference, I also explored the other event halls hosting activities alongside AI Fest. I visited hall D where they hosted the AI Game On exhibits showcasing different games built with AI. In the same hall was also the AI in Motion: Robotics Exhibits. Outside the event halls there was a free showing of the SineAI movies where students showcased short films created with the help of AI and other exhibits of student research projects that used AI in solving real-world problems.
The final day featured technology showcases from event partners, including demonstrations such as Huawei’s Model-as-a-Service platform, CapCut’s Seedance 2.5, and Wayground—an AI instructional platform. I also had the chance to explore the Philippine GameDev Expo, which was happening alongside the event, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, this conference reminded me that AI is no longer just a research topic or a trend—it’s becoming a multidisciplinary effort that combines technology, policy, education, ethics, and innovation. One of my biggest takeaways was seeing experts from different sectors come together to exchange ideas, showcase innovations, and discuss how AI can be used to solve real-world problems responsibly.
As someone just beginning to explore AI, the conference gave me a clearer picture of how broad the field really is—from research and governance to practical applications that can improve everyday life. I’m grateful to everyone who organized and shared their knowledge throughout the three days, and I’m looking forward to continuing my learning journey and exploring how AI can complement my work as a software developer.
For me, learning AI isn’t just about understanding algorithms—it’s about understanding how technology, people, and society can work together to solve meaningful problems. I’m excited to continue that journey.
